"Pfft, who even cares about Jonathan Harker?"
Tumblr media
"What does he even add besides, like, a skinny little intro and giving us a reason to see the vampire chicks?"
Tumblr media
"He's so boring. There's literally nothing to say about him!"
Tumblr media
As an aside.
I have multiple editions of Dracula. The biggest comes in at 399 pages. The smallest, a palm-sized hardcover, has 463.
As of today, in Harker, Jonathan has just now escaped from Castle Dracula and started his marathon run.
...
There is something fundamentally awry within me, I think :)

Gentle reminder to UK folks that if you don't like Labour there is no better election than this one to vote for a third party or independent who actually stands for what you believe in.
Every major poll is predicting a Labour landslide and a total collapse of the Tory party. The only reason to tactically vote Labour to "keep the Tories out" is if in exactly your seat the Tories (or worse Reform) are projected to be first or second place and no one else is close - but in a lot of seats the predicted second is not the Tories, it's Lib Dems or SNP or in some places even Greens, and that gives you the freedom to vote for what you believe in because the Tories aren't gonna get that seat anyway.
Remember: UK is not the US, and despite all that Labour and the Tories try to do this is not a two-party state. Vote pragmatically, yes, and mindful of harm reduction, but be rational and informed as well.

the way that the iran/israel situation has escalated so fast into potential ww3 is terrifying but its also worth saying that if you care about palestinian lives and holding israel accountable, it's not the time to be muting tags. western media is gonna be doing its best to make iran seem like the aggressor. you'll play a part in upholding the narrative by bearing witness now.

Minthara says ā€œin Her nameā€ when you first meet her and sheā€™s following the Absolute but when you recruit her and she expresses that she no longer follows any god, but she still has an intact paladin oath, and she says ā€œin your nameā€ occasionally because sheā€™s no longer Lolthā€™s paladin or the Absoluteā€™s paladin, sheā€™s your paladin
#šŸ˜#she might not think youā€™re a god or whatever but youā€™re the only one that ever came to save her#and if you let her read your mind youā€™re the only one she knows has no intention to hurt or use her#like I feel like what Minthara wants most of all is to not have to look over her shoulder or wait for the shoe to drop#like every relationship sheā€™s had as a lolthsworn drow has come with the caveat that everyone will take her out if they have the chance#and if it benefits them even a little#lolth literally encourages this so long as you arenā€™t obvious about it#and lolth will 100% punish you the second she has an excuse to#and then the absolute like while she was being controlled probably felt more like genuine love than Minthara ever experienced#but it came with Orin and punishments for failing#and her being literallly mind controlled into her#so itā€™s still violent and threatening even if the extent of that is only realized after sheā€™s pulled out of it#but then thereā€™s you who pulled her out of that#who can clearly and plainly show her that you have no intention of hurting her even if it benefits you#and who went out of your way to rescue her when no one else she was devoted to ever would#and you offered her the means to not only stay safe from the absolute but to get revenge on it#of course itā€™s ā€˜in your nameā€™ now youā€™re the only person that gave Minthara a reason for her to follow you#that wasnā€™t threats of violence and suffering#you literally gave her the opposite#sheā€™s YOUR paladin it doesnā€™t matter if arenā€™t a god#you could be tho#Minthara#minthara baenre#bg3#baldur's gate 3

I have been in the solavellan fandom for...A While. (do not count the years, i beg) and everyone has their tropes and themes re: wolves/halla and hunter/prey and the New Herald being worshiped/the Old God nearly forgotten, and tbh I like bits and pieces of all of them, but like...
For me, the most compelling story is that Lavellan is just Some Guy (gn).
They meet Solas and accept that he is like them. He's an elf. One of The People. You are like me. I am like you. We are The Same People. And because of that, I will protect you with whatever power the humans around us have given me, because I know this is not the safest place for either of us.
And it just fucking... gets him, right? Because that's his whole deal. The world is broken because the people aren't People. He's not like them. They're not like him.
I just love the idea that this impossibly old, incredibly powerful sort-of-god, trips into a hole and nearly throws his entire game away because a regular person (albeit one who was thrust into extraordinary circumstances) decided to be kind. Offered him protection and friendship. Asked him to tell them stories. Grieved with him when he lost one of his oldest friends.
He could not deny that they were a person, because they treated him like a person.
I love how ordinary that is. How simple. How devastating.

THE WINTER SOLDIER AU IM GOING CRAZY BARK BARK BARK WHDHWJHDJFHWIS EJWKBTJWJF i canā€™t stop thinking about winter soldier John being mad as hell that you arenā€™t wearing your ring (not that you have one lol) and Laswell lying having to say that you couldnā€™t wear it for safety reasons (so nobody would know youā€™re his wife) and john being so mad but grumbling and somewhat understanding but immediately going out of his way to get her a ring
i'm loving the thought of him in the jeweller, having a Bucky Barns Seeing Through the Winter Soldier Programming moment as he stares down at this ring, knowing damn well he never got you one to begin with, but unable to fight this thing inside of him that operates him like marionette.
(even worse when no one knows what end goal Makarov has for making him take a random civilian like this. until they realise: that was never Makarov's plan. this, whatever it is, is all Price.)
it makes giving in a little bit easier knowing that there's nothing nefarious about it, and it's just one man's tragic way of clinging to stability amid three years of torture.
so. you put the damn ring on even though it doesn't fit. make him dinner. kiss him goodbye each morning when he leaves like a dutiful wife, and greet him every evening when he comes home. life turned upside down and filled with how was your day's and are you John again?'s whispered out soft as satin, afraid to disturb this tentative peace, but aching to know mister Price? when you look at me do you see the secretary you could barely stomach being around, or do youā€”oh, still the wife? okay.
but it's getting harder and harder to bat him away when he drags you into bed with the sole intention of consummating this farcical marriage, and the ring on your finger (kept on in half-pity, heart aching sympathy, and the hefty severance pay Laswell mentioned to you via courier pigeon because you know John has that house on LOCK) only seems to spurn him on harder, bluntly refuting your clumsy excuses and settling for an ultimatum when brute determination won't work:
if you won't consummate this marriage with him, then you're signing the marriage license he had his passel of lawyers draw up in the morning. deal?

Sometimes Iā€™m talking to a friend and Iā€™m like oh I KNOW that the timeline where we are married in is incredibly close to this one. If a butterfly had clapped its asscheeks somewhere ten years ago we would be making out right now.

Anyway, if I had a nickel for every time a series had six installments that gradually escalated in ridiculousness, only for the sixth installment to end with a universe reboot and the seventh installment to pick up in a new universe where alternate versions of the original characters now exist in the distant past, I'd have two nickels.
One of those series is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The other is Riverdale

I feel like one of these days I should make a 'Scots For Non-Scots Speakers' guide so that when someone's doing wee bits of writing with a Scottish character (like Jamie McCrimmon, but honestly any character), they can get the language right.
I know there aren't many Scots at all online, and especially not a huge number on a given platform, but it pains me how often you see like 'I'm nae happy' or similar.... that's. ouch. It's obvious when someone just substitutes the expected word from English to Scots and doesn't know how the language usually sounds when spoken by a fluent speaker.

This ā€˜quoteā€™ from Yoko is certainly something
"It's a pity, really. I like Paul! I think of him as a friend. John is the one who doesn't like Paul. Paul was always the cute one and John was jealous of that. When I first met Paul I was attracted to him. I'm like that when I really like someone. I try to get close to the guy who's close to the guy I like. That's why I was getting close to John, so I would be near Paul if he wanted to make a move. And Paul was attracted to me, I could see that. But he couldn't handle the idea of being attracted to somebody John was with because that would be a violation of the fraternity rules. I was someone else's property; that's how men think, you know. So then Paul was very frustrated because he wanted me and felt that he couldn't have me. That's why he always acted so mean to me. Men always think like that, you know. If they can't have a woman they want to punish her. But I think that he was always a little interested because of the way he looked at me. Even when he used to come here with Linda, he was always looking at me funny when he knew Linda and John couldn't see him doing it. There were other things too, like he got married because John and I did."
"I thought that he got married to Linda before you married John."
"Well he did, but he knew that John and I were planning to, so right away he married Linda so he would get the headlines first. He's like John that way, very competitive. I think that if it wasn't for me, he never would have married Linda at all. She was just a groupie, you know. I don't think they ever would have married if it wasn't for the competitive pressure between John and Paul and Paul's frustration about me. He just married her to prove that I didn't mean anything to him. I think he does still feel something about me though. Do you want to read on that and see how he's feeling about me?"
I did and it didn't look like love. Disdain, maybe, contempt certainly, but definitely not love.
"He seems to have gotten over his infatuation with you."
"Are you sure? That's very funny. Well, he hasn't seen me in such a long time, so maybe that's itā€¦ I don't know why men think that I'm so attractive. But they all seem to. I can tell from the way they look at meļæ½ļæ½ļæ½Do you think if Paul were to see me that he would be attracted again? I still like him, you know."
